Avalanche is the greatest hazard facing "out of bounds" backcountry snowboarders, skiers, sledders and ice climbers.
The Recreational Avalanche Course offered by JumpCamp is an introduction to backcountry snow safety. The course is taught by Mark Karlstrom who has been in the backcountry for over a decade and works as a professional ski guide. Students will be introduced to basic self rescue, terrain analysis and snow science. The course is a two day introduction to riding in the backcountry. The first day will consist of skills work followed by a night of classroom instruction. The following day being hands on training in the field examining avalanche terrain. Students will be able to recognize avalanche terrain, use an avalanche transceiver and do simple snow evaluations. Once completed the valuable course students will posses the basic skills to access the backcountry.
